Alone (Rin Matsuoka x Reader)

It was late, but you really needed to see Rin. It had been a particularly stressful day for you and you relayed everything over in your head as you made your way to the dorms of Samezuka Academy, groaning as the thoughts gave you a headache.

Rin, oh Rin… He always knew how to cheer you up or comfort you when everything in your life was crashing down around you.

No, you two weren’t dating, as much as you wanted to be. You were only really good friends, ever since birth practically. You two spent your entire childhood together, up until he moved to Australia for a bit. But when he came back you both went straight back to hanging out without missing a beat, like nothing ever happened. You were just glad he was back.

Now the shark-like boy was your only comfort. You could go to him with anything and he could do the same with you, though he preferred to keep quiet about his issues. You were just the opposite, always needing to rant about your problems and get them out, before you ended up exploding on an unsuspecting bystander. Which, you hate to admit it, but you did that a lot.




Having become lost in your thoughts sometime on your journey, you finally registered the fact that you were now standing in front of the door to Rin’s dorm room. You had been there for a few minutes but only now actually realized it.

Gripping the handle you silently hoped that Rin’s roommate, Ai Nitori, was not around because you wanted to be alone with Rin right now. You tightened your grip and turned the handle, slipping into the room fairly easily.

Rin was lying on his back on his bed, twirling his phone in his hand and staring up at the bottom of the bunk above him. He was in a simple black tank top with blue sweats, looking bored yet comfortable. When he heard the door open, he looked up, but was not expecting to see you.

Upon seeing your stressed and frustrated expression, he tossed his phone down and sat up, motioning for you to come to him. Silently, you obeyed and got into his bed, laying down next to him. You pulled him down to lay next to you and buried your face into his chest, inhaling his scent peacefully. He silently pet you (color) hair, letting you relax a bit without pressing on to why you were here. He knew that when you were ready you will spill all to him.

You two laid like that for close to a half an hour before you pulled back. Your (color) eyes stared up into his and you let out a sigh. “Rin…” You whispered. “I’m sorry for coming so late.”

He snorted. “You’re not forgiven.” He said, though he was kidding and you knew it.

You ignored what he said and let another sigh escape your lips, closing your eyes briefly. “The reason I’m here is because I really need someone to talk to.”

He smirked at her. “Yeah, I got that. I’ve been waiting for you to start ranting to me since you got here. You gonna spill or are we gonna sleep on it and talk in the morning?”

Your eyes widened and you blushed, looking down for a second. Sleep on it? You shook your head, deciding not to comment on that.

Looking back up, you stared at him for a few more minutes. He stared back and waited for you to start talking.

“I came home today and I saw my parents packing suitcases. So naturally I asked them what they were up to. My mom told me, in not the nicest of ways, that she and my father were leaving me to live in the house alone. They weren’t going to be coming home anymore, they were done wasting their gas to come see me when they were so incredibly busy with work and meetings. So now, I’m left to live in this huge house alone, and my parents aren’t even going to come home to visit me. Sure, it sounds like every teenagers dream to get to have their house to themselves for forever basically. But you know, for me that is my worst nightmare and being alone scares me to death.” You let out a long sigh after explaining to him what was bothering you, waiting for him to make his comments.

Rin stared at you and snorted, shaking his head. This caused you to frown even more and look down. “You don’t wanna be alone in that house? Able to do whatever you want whenever you want? That is my dream, but I know how you feel about being all alone. We’ve talked about this before.” He hinted at the fact that we would stay up at night sometimes, talking about our fears. “Just know...whatever you do, you’re not alone. You have me and if need be, I can stay with you at your house sometimes and you can come here to sleep, as long as you don’t mind having to wake up early.”

You stared at Rin and nibbled your bottom lip, at a slight loss for words because of his offer. “Thanks, Rin. That makes me feel better, actually. To know that I don’t need to be lonely all the time. I have you.” Your eyes twinkled and you hugged him tightly, breathing in his scent again.

Rin smirked one of his shark-like smirks, hugging you back and giving you a little squeeze. Rin didn’t show affection much and when he did it was subtle but you knew he was doing it. He stayed silent, giving you another opportunity to speak up.

“I’m just so stressed about it. I’ve never been alone for more than a week by myself. But now forever? I don’t know…” You whispered.

“Is there anything I can do to relieve you of that stress?” Rin asked carefully, watching you.

“Let me stay with you for the night. I know that if I get a good nights sleep in your arms I’ll be better by morning. I’m overreacting about this whole situation and I just need sleep…” You answered. “Y-you can say no if you want to though.”

“I wasn’t going to let you walk home this late by yourself anyway, so you’re going to have to stay.” Rin reached up and ran the back of his fingers over your cheek, smiling down at you. An actual smile.

You leaned into his fingers, letting out a sigh of content and willing your eyes to fall closed. “I love you Rin.” You muttered before you could stop yourself or even think about what you were saying.

Before you could even let yourself freak out about what you just admitted to your best friend, you felt his lips press against your own. You kissed him back, feeling all the nerves in your body relax as you melted into him, not even surprised at what was happening. Your reaction would have to be more relieved than anything. Relieved he felt the same way.

In the most powerful way yet, he was telling you that you weren't alone.
